iLearn4Free is in the process of developing an M4Read version in Papiamento, the native language of Aruba. We currently partner with Fundacion Papiamente, a foundation dedicated to promoting the pleasure of reading in Papiamento.


Meet our Papiamento Education and Language Specialists

Liliana Erasmus is the iLearn4Free Papiamento education expert and a founder of Fundacion Papiamente. She lives in Aruba and has been writing for as long as she can remember. Liliana has experience writing in Papiamento and Dutch, the official language of Aruba.


Keisha Wiel, the iLearn4free Papiamento language expert, was born in New York City and raised by parents from Aruba and Curaçao. She has a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of Central Florida, with a focus on the ideology of Papiamento in Aruba and Curaçao and its effect on culture, education, and media. Keisha is working toward her Ph.D. on the use of Papiamento in the school system and looks forward to joining the iLearn4Free team.


Joyce L. Pereira has a master’s in Dutch Language and Literature. She teaches Papiamento didactics at the Instituto Pedagogico Arubano and coordinates language research at the University of Aruba. She is co-author of “Habri porta pa nos drenta,” the document that is the basis for the foundation of the Multilingual Primary School started in 2009 as a pilot project in Aruba.

She is the president  of “Fundacion Lanta Papiamento,” which promotes the use and acceptance of Papiamento in the community and in education. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis at the University of the Netherlands Antilles. Her thesis deals with the position of Papiamento in the education system of Aruba. Two of her recent publications are “Instituto Pedagogico Arubano and the proposed educational reforms in Aruba” in Linguistic Studies on Papiamentu (2008), and, with M. Dijkhoff, “Language and education in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao” in Creoles in Education – an appraisal of current programs and projects (2010).
